Artist Miriam Calzada hosts “May 15” cocktail party

Miriam’s work is something I had never seen before in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – Photographer and environmental activist Miriam Calzada hosted the “May 15” cocktail event, directed by Edward De Valle and sponsored by Quint Collection Hollywood & JQ Group, held at the Art Gallery.

Miriam’s work is something I had never witnessed before in the Dominican Republic. She has a deep passion for nature, as well as a profound respect for it. This connection with the environment is what inspired our friends at Quint Collection Hollywood to take part in this event, as their oceanfront project is surrounded by mangroves and exotic wildlife within a national reserve—standout features of this beautiful development, noted Edward De Valle.

The Dominican artist shared insights into this fresh and exquisite exhibition titled “May 15,” which will remain open to the public for two weeks starting May 15. “Dive into the reality beyond your screen.”

From the most remote valley to the highest mountain, silent and unnoticed, they shake and resound in the ears of those who need them most. Clouds cleanse, heal, and play a powerful role in nature; and as if that were not enough, they have entertained us since childhood with their shapes, reflections, sweetness… And it always rains again.

Water travels through the valleys until it reaches the sea, where it finally pours itself, evaporates, forms our protagonists once more… and again, it rains.

Miriam Calzada explained, “The supreme simplicity of the composition of clouds draws me in. I don’t just see and contemplate them—I’ve grown fond of them. These special droplets of water suspended in the atmosphere… I celebrate their fantastic balance. Water always finds its way back to the earth.”

Mrs. Marianne de Tolentino, inspired by this collection, shared her reflection:

“In the lyrical sky of a perennial blue, clouds take on fantastic and surreal contours. Strange suggestions of unknown creatures—plump, smiling, cotton-like, filamentous, floating, shifting—their consistency, shapes, and luminosity position them more as guardians of a mysterious universe than threatening or tempestuous beings. And so, through the lens of Miriam Calzada, we witness unusual and fascinating variations.”
